Description |
This set of woodblock prints was reprinted in the 1980s. With the exception of the three boys and woman with sailboat in washtub, the cat chasing bird, and the clockmaker, the images duplicate the earlier prints in this collection. Woodblock prints of, from left to right starting at top left: black woman carrying basket on head, approaching seated white man; boy lying on log, hat removed, pig on ground, and axe leaning against log; bird and dog in foreground near broken split-rail fence, with woman and cows in background; girl sitting on spinning wheel, with cat approaching from behind; seated woman pointing to standing girl, who holds out the bottom of her dress; boy with stick approaching pig eating hat; man pulling empty wagon, with two other men resting on haystack and dog ready to run; boy gesturing toward a book as if teaching the animal (dog?) seated in chair and wearing glasses; plants and shelter; woodworker in shop sanding wood plank, with tools (including saw) hanging on wall behind him, and door leaning against wall; galloping horse carrying boy; cat and dog overturning chair and girl; boy patting horse, surrounded by cat, dog, and chickens; boy with stick chasing dog, which is watching cat on stump; boys playing chase; long-legged birds (herons?) in marsh near large house; three boys and woman with sailboat in washtub; geese in water and flying overhead in V formation; boy with book under his arm points to another boy with armful of apples; mother cat leaping with arched back toward dog to protect her litter of kittens; cat chasing bird; boy shining man's boots; two boys entering through doorway, where sad-looking boy is seated inside; group of children kicking a ball; woman and girl in toy shop, with hoops, horses, dolls (to which the girl appears to be pointing), and a dollhouse visible, and a man and woman in the background; man opens hatch of what appears to be a small windmill, while a clock face and gears lean nearby; girl standing outdoors, looking up at full moon; three girls skipping rope; men laying bricks; boy looking up at two birds in a nest. |
