Portrait of Brigadier General Christopher Columbus Andrews (1829-1922) , an American soldier , diplomat , newspaperman , author , and forester . He was elected to the Minnesota State Senate , and was instrumental in establishing a newspaper , the Minnesota Union , supporting the policies of President Abraham Lincoln , for which he served as editor before enlisting in the Union Army . Andrews attained the rank of brigadier general and was brevetted major general . After the war he continued his life in politics .
