Situated
on the
Atlantic
Ocean
eighteen
miles
east
of
Jacksonville
, the
gateway
of
Florida
on
State
Road
78
.
It
has a
year
round
climate
of
70
degrees
. A
fine
fishing
pier
extends
out
on the
ocean
a
rendezvous
for the
angler
.
Safety
for the
bather
is
assured
by a
Red
Cross
Life
Saving
Corp
of
about
60
or
more
men
; this
being
the
first
Red
Cross
Station
organized
in the
United
States
.
Motor
Races
[sic]
are
regular
events
on these
hard
packed
sand
beaches
having
a
length
of
approximately
forty
miles
. Its
width
at
low
tide
can
accommodate
over
40
cars
abreast
. Its
Hotels
[sic]
,
shops
,
picture
shows
and
other
amusements
and its
concrete
promenade
,
gaily
lighted
,
serve
week-end
crowds
of
over
a
hundred
thousand
.
Beautiful
settings
of
sub-tropical
palms
and
sand
dunes
are in
evidence
among
the
beautiful
homes
belonging
to
commuters
and
local
residents
which
line
the
beaches
and
vicinity.
