reads
, "The
hall
is
located
on
Chestnut
street
,
one
of the
principal
thoroughfares
of
Philadelphia
. In this
hall
on
July
4th
,
1776
, the
Declaration
of
Independence
was
adopted
by
Congress
and
read
to the
people
assembled
on
Independence
Square
. The
Continental
Congress
assembled
here and
Washington
was here
chosen
Commander-in-Chief
in
1775
. The
building
is
now
used
as a
museum
of
relics
connected
with the
history
of this
country.
