Description	Brigman Hall seen from across the Oval, with the Steam and Chilled Water Plant beside it. The Steam and Chilled Water Plant has a large smoke stack. At the time of the photograph, Brigman Hall was known as the Speed School Building, and served as the main building for the Speed Scientific School (now the Speed School of Engineering). Brigman Hall was formerly known as the Leathers Building, named for John Leathers, president of the Louisville Industrial School of Reform at the time of its construction. The 1950-1951 catalogue first calls the building "Brigman Hall"; the 1948-1949 catalogue refers to it as "Old Speed School building." By the early 1970s, part of Brigman is denoted as "Physical Plant" on campus maps. Location: Belknap Campus: South side of oval. Current uses: Classrooms; A&S Justice Administration. Named in honor: Bennett M. Brigman, first dean of the University of Louisville's Speed Scientific (Engineering) School. Former names: Leathers Building; Speed School. Former uses: Louisville Industrial School of Reform manual training workshop; Speed Scientific (Engineering) School (1925-1958); School of Business (1958-1974); Public Relations; Freshmen Symposia; College of Urban Studies; Institute for Community Development. Type of architecture: Romanesque Revival. Square footage: 21030.
