This
mosaic's
"
border
consists
of
two
rows
of
solids
in
perspective
,
each
with a
dot
on its
face
, and
between
these a
rich
acanthus
scroll
.
Except
in the
outer
left
row
the
solids
meet
in the
middle
. The
acanthus
branches
spring
from
two
foliate
bearded
and
similar
male
masks
placed
symmetrically
in the
middle
of the
upper
and
lower
sides
and
meet
in the
middle
of the
other
sides
where
they
end
with
three
large
acanthus
leaves
.
Each
loop
of the
scroll
consists
of a
pair
of
acanthus
leaves
of
which
one
is
rendered
in the
shape
of a
cornucopia
.
Sprays
with
small
leaves
or
flowers
follow
the
circular
movement
of the
leaves
and
end
at the
center
with
large
stylized
flowers
or
fruits
:
grapes
,
apples
,
pears
,
plums
,
pomegranates
,
figs
,
pinecones
. The
scroll
is
enhanced
with
small
natural
flowers
such
as
crocuses
or
lilies
or
tendrils
outside
the
loops
. The
emblema
has its
own
border
of
listels
overlapping
at the
corners
,
imitating
an
actual
frame
.

emblema
Eros
and
Psyche
(Soul)
are
represented
seated
on a
cushioned
couch
. Their
feet
rest
on a
footstool
on
which
their
mantles
make
large
heaps
.
Eros
is
barefoot
. They are
shown
in
three-quarter
view
turned
in the
opposite
direction
. Their
heads
slightly
turn
towards
each
other
.
Eros
is
represented
as a
beautiful
boy
. He
wears
a
cap
of
leaves
. His
mantle
has
fallen
down
and
left
his
upper
body
naked
. His
wings
are
shown
in
many
various
hues
and are
open
. With his
left
arm
he
embraces
Psyche
and his
hand
appears
on her
left
shoulder
. In the
other
lowered
hand
is
a
wreath
of
flowers
. To the
left
, on a
pedestal
is
a
metallic
crater
.

Psyche
is
dressed
in a
sleeved
tunic
. Her
mantle
is
made
of a
diaphanous
material
. Her
head
,
wreathed
with
leaves
and
veiled
,
is
tilted
to her
right
. The
gesture
of her
left
arm
and
hand
gives
the
impression
that she
is
in the
act
of
talking.
