Description	"Though its exact date is unknown, the nature of the brushwork and general intensity of style suggest late 1888 or early 1889 while van Gogh was still in Arles, the village in Provence [...]. It may even have been executed after van Gogh entered the hospital in nearby Saint-Remy in May 1889. [...] The composition is one of triangles: the first, a foreground of lumpy soil; the second, a bulge of blue-purple ground that surrounds the man sowing grain; the third, a dark field where quickly brushed images of man and horse are plowing furrows suggested by thin swirls of the three primary colors. A village with many black smokestacks (perhaps representing the railroad sheds or gas works of Arles) is silhouetted against a narrow band of chrome yellow sky.” (p.165)
