Description |
"In an article published in Figueres in May 1921, Subias Galter (1897-1984) praised the gouache posters that Dali had done for the recent Santa Creu festivities. Several critics had pointed out that they and other works in the same vein owed an evident debt to the painter Xavier Nogués Casas (1873-1941), famous for his celebration of Catalan country life; Dali's brilliant colors, however, as he himself wrote in 1922, distinguished him from the older man. Subias appreciated this originality and deemed the posters excellent. Fair of the Holy Cross (1921) gives a good idea of what they looked like." (Excerpt, p.119) |
