Description	"Here the god is shown standing, naked, a coat thrown over his left shoulder. His left arm is raised and perhaps at one time leaned on a long scepter. The thunderbolt in his right hand and the eagle at his feet are other attributes of this lord of the heavens. Other signs of his divinity, according to a schema established over time in imperial-era Roman workshops, include his wavy hair escaping a thick headband and falling over his forehead, and his full beard, worked in trepan style. Traces of green on the central part of the lightning bolt and red on his left eyelid and in the inner folds of the drapery stir one to imagine the impact that this multicolored image of serene majesty must have had. […] Parts from modern restoration include the left arm, some folds of drapery falling from the left shoulder, the hem of his coat held under his right arm, his genitals, the ends of the lightning bolt, the eagle (except for the left wing), the big toes, the front and back of the base, and several fragments. […] The general appearance is in the style of Polyclitus, widely used by Greek sculptors since the classical era […] After the Hellenistic era, some Romans who sought to portray a less idealized image were also inspired by this model, and sacrificed their republican convictions to portray heroic nudity […]."
