external
aspects
are

changed
from their
original
appearance

Huge
buttresses
were
added
to the
Justinianic
design
, and
four
towering
Turkish
minarets
were
constructed
after
the
Ottoman
conquest
of
1453
,
when
Hagia
Sophia
became
a
mosque
. The
building
was
secularized
in the
20th
century
and
is
now
a
museum.
