Saturday night at 8 p.m., at the Fairgrounds Stadium, Coach Frank Camp's University of Louisville Cardinals take on the arch-rival University of Dayton Flyers of Coach Bud Kerr. For the past four weeks, the high-flying Redbirds of Louisville have p 1 aye d consecutive road games. For their grueling tiring efforts, the Cards have brought home four victories, while dropping only one decision. Open With Win The Cards opened their 1959 football season at home on September 15, when they trounced the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 19-0. Four days later, Camp took his warriors to Cincinnati, where they suffered their only defeat of the year, a 28-13 loss to Xavier. The next three weeks saw the Redbirds rip off three victories, all on the road. First it was to Richmond Kentucky, where the Cards gained a 14-7 verdict over the Eastern Kentucky Maroons. It was then on to Peoria, Illinois, where the Redbirds stomped Bradley 28-8. Finally last week at Murray, Kentucky, the Cards plastered the Murray Racers 28-0. Flyers Win Two And so now, the powerful Dayton Flyers, who themselves will be playing their fourth consecutive road encounter, invade Fairgrounds Stadium to test the resurging Redbirds. It shouldn't take much effort by Camp to fire his Cards up this week against the Flyers. For it was almost one year ago that the Aviators humbled the Redbirds 26-13 in Dayton. Besides the Louisville win in 1958, the men of Bud Kerr could capture but one other win, that being a 13-12 victory over the University of Richmond. So far this year, Dayton shows a worksheet of one win against three losses. The Flyers opened their season with a 6-3 win over Richmond , but on successive weeks lost to Cincinnati 21-7, Bowling Green 14-0, and last week Holy Cross 8-0. The Cardi11als and Flyers have met seven times on the gridiron, with Dayton winni~g five times, and Louisville twice. Palyan scored a T.D. in last year's U. D. win over Louisville. The Aviators are quarterbacked by junior Pat Connor, who completed four of eight passes last year against the Cards, with one of them being good for a touchdown. Other Dayton starters in the Flyer backfield include Bob Cyphers or Earl Spivey at one halfback, with Nate Bruno opening at the other slot. (Continued on· page 6)
