Description | CITY OF BATON ROUGE, a centerwheel ferry with steel hull (115.2 ft. x 28 ft. x 7.2 ft.), was built at Howard in 1916. Owned by Baton Rouge Transportation Co., CITY OF BATON ROUGE operated at the the Louisiana city, carrying up to twenty-one automobiles and 500 people. She was sold around 1970. Her engines were placed on the JULIA BELLE SWAIN in 1971 and her stacks and pilothouse were lost in a tornado sometime later, but the CITY OF BATON ROUGE still serves as the landing boat for the TWILIGHT riverboat in LeClaire, Iowa. |
