Improvements at State School Announced Says Activity In Evidence WEST KENTUCKY TO GET NEW GYM AND MODERNIZED WOMEN'S DORMITORY Paducah, Ky., August 7 - Activity is in evidence, and is increasing daily, at West Kentucky Vocational Training School as one may easily see in passing by and going in and out of the school these days. Many improvements are being made in the physical plant, especially so far as a more systematic location of the different trades is concerned. This change will locate the various trades as they are more related to each other, and will also enable more efficient instruction to be had. The Chef Cooking Department, which is attracting a more favorable number of applicants, and which has never had a permanent location, will be housed in the basement of the Administration Building in the quarters formerly occupied by the Tailoring Department. Complete and new equipment is being purchased for this department and gas lines being laid to serve same. The Drawing and Drafting Department is being moved to the second floor of the Administration Building and will occupy quarters formerly held by the Office Practices Department. The Office Practices Department is being moved to the first floor in the Administration Building to quarters previously occupied by the Drawing and Drafting Department. The arrangement will place in close proximity the Office Practices Department to the Business and Executive offices, which it will serve from time to time in it's students gaining actual experience. The Chemistry Department, used in the days when the school was a Junior College, is being prepared and equipped so as to house the practical division of fhe Barbering Department. The arrangement will enable the school to meet the legal requirements of the Kentucky State Board of Barber and Beautician Examiners as to size, and will likewise give a deal more space for this phase of the work of the Barbering Department. Funeral services were held at Fifth Street Baptist Church, Thursday, with Rev. W. Augusts Jones, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Givens is survived by her adopted daughter, Mrs. Fannie Givens Robinson, Durham, N. C.; J. E. Givens, brother of Mrs. Robinson; Mrs. Margaret G. Malone, Mrs. Mary G. Sharp, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Jessie G. Holland, Chicago, sisters who also formerly lived with Mr. Givens. Interment was in the Eastern Cemetery, with the J. B. Cooper Funeral Home in charge. TWO PRIMARY WINNERS Eldon S. Dummit Earle C. Clements Winners in the Republican and Democratic primaries, respectively, last Saturday, in one of the hottest campaigns in the history of Kentucky politics, and who will oppose each other as candidates for Governor, in the general election in November.
