Description
Written on border of negative "Berea College Woman's Hall - 1st Permanent and oldest existing bldg . erected in 1869. " In fact , the building was named Ladies ' Hall and was erected in 1870-71 and was the first brick building on campus , with Howard Hall being the first substantial , large scale building , erected in 1867-69 . In 1937 the building was rededicated and named Julia Maria Fairchild Hall , in honor of the daughter of Berea's first President , Edward Henry Fairchild . As of 2017 , it remains the oldest building on campus and continues to serve as a residence hall for women .
