Description
A copy photograph of a Southern Box & Lumber Co . factory . Stacks of wood are piled next to a railroad track and in front of building with partial walls and openings , likely a garage or storage facility . Two men stand stop a ladder on the left side of the building . Above the building is a sign across a metal chain link fence that reads "The Southern Box & Lumber Co. " In the background is a smokestack that reads "Success. " The copy was produced by Caufield & Shook but the original photographer and location are unknown . The image may have been taken in Birmingham , Alabama , Savannah , Georgia , or Wilmington , North Carolina , where the Southern Box & Lumber Co . had locations . The copy was requested by the Logan Company of Louisville , Ky . and likely produced the fence that the sign is on. The company was founded in 1876 and was originally known as Dow's Wire Works Co . until it changed to Logan Co . in 1925 . They produced ornamental iron , fences , bedding , furniture , and fire equipment . The company ceased business in 1994 .
