Description
High Bridge over the Kentucky River . It stood 275 feet tall and spanned 1,125 feet . When the bridge was completed in 1877 (after construction was halted during the Civil War) , it was the first cantilever bridge in North America , and also the highest and longest cantilever in the world . Until the early 20th century , the bridge held the record as the highest bridge over a navigable stream .
