Description |
Bow and port side view of SPRAGUE tied off at Howard Shipyard in Port Fulton (now Jeffersonville), Indiana. SPRAGUE, a stern wheel towboat with a steel hull (276 ft. x 61 ft. x 7.4 ft.) was built at Dubuque Boat & Boiler in Dubuque, Iowa in 1902. Initially owned by Monongahela Coal and Coke, SPRAGUE was the largest towboat ever built for the inland waterways. In later years, she towed petroleum products from Baton Rouge to Vicksburg for Standard Oil of New Jersey. She was laid up at a museum at Vickburg in 1948 and burned on May 15, 1974. |
