Description
A girl , wearing a calico dress , with a bonnet hanging next to her, plays the mandolin , and a boy , barefoot and wearing overalls and a straw hat , plays guitar . They are sitting outside a log cabin , probably the Traipsin ' Woman Cabin on the Mayo Trail near Ashland , Kentucky . A basket rests on the bottom step . The children's roles in the American Folk Song Festival ('Little Chad ' and 'Emmaline) have been named after children Jean Thomas met at the Singin ' Gatherin ' near Brushy Fork of Lonesome Creek , an event which inspired her to create the American Folk Song Festival .
