She is seated before an outdoor backdrop , wearing a short-sleeve blouse and long skirt , and holding a hat in both hands . Born on March 16 , 1889 in Columbus , Ohio , Elsie Janis performed at Macauley's Theatre in the Cinderella story "The Lady of the Slipper " in February 1914 . She had also performed in "The Slim Princess " in September 1911 , as well as three other Macauley's appearances between 1908 and 1920 . Inscription on mount , lower center : To McCauley - All good wishes from Elsie Cinderella Janis . 1914 . Title supplied by cataloger .
