Description
Group portrait of three Vokes sisters (Victoria , Rosina , and Jessie) , who , with Fred and Fawdon Vokes , wrote and performed sketches as the Vokes Family in the 1880s . They are wearing dark , winter-weight dresses and hats . They performed "The Belles of the Kitchen " "Cousin Joe " "Fun in a Fog " and "No . 1 Around the Corner " at Macauley's Theatre on September 19-24 , 1881 . Interestingly , their performance on Tuesday , September 20 , 1881 was cancelled due to the death of U.S . President James A. Garfield , who had been shot on July 2 but lived until September 19 .
