Portrait of George Evans wearing a suit jacket and tie . Welsh-born George "Honey Boy " Evans became famous in the United States as a blackface minstrel , vaudeville comedian , and songwriter who performed with the "Honey Boy " Minstrels . George Evans ' Minstrels performed at Macauley's Theatre in October 1910 ; January 1912 ; October 1913 ; November 1914 ; and January 1922 , as well as the October 1912 performance at which this portrait was inscribed . George Evans also appeared at Macauley's with the George M . Cohan & Sam H . Harris Minstrels in October 1908 . The inscription is to Pres . L . Hamilton , Macauley's Theatre's Treasurer beginning in the 1908-1909 season . Inscription on print : To my friend , Press Hamilton . Truly yours , Geo . "Honey Boy " Evans . Oct . 5 - 1912 . Annotation on mount verso : To McAuley as soon as possible . Location of photo studio : New York (N.Y.) . Title supplied by cataloger .
