Description	A girl with long curly hair, wearing a plaid dress and white pinafore, sits in a large wooden chair. She holds a book in her left hand and is looking up as if daydreaming. Her feet and the chair rest on a bearskin rug. Annie Fellows Johnston based the physical attributes of the character Betty in her Little Colonel books on this girl, whose real name was Elizabeth Matthews. Elizabeth was also a niece of the photographer, Kate Matthews.
